Leadership Feedback for Brian Vance
Hello Roosevelt Community:
In the wrapping up of my third year as principal at Roosevelt High School, I am providing an opportunity for all of the stakeholders (parents, students, staff, alumni, community members) to give me feedback on my leadership. The purpose of this 360 degree review is to allow me a chance to reflect on my practice so that I can continue doing the things that are working and improve upon the things that are not. The attached link will take you to the survey questions. The survey is fairly short and should not take more than a few minutes to complete. This is anonymous and it is my hope that many of you will take the time to fill out the survey thoughtfully and honestly. The survey will remain open until July 30th, 2010. Once the data is collected, I will spend time analyzing it and ultimately developing goals that I will share with the community in the fall.
I am very proud of what we have accomplished at Roosevelt High School over the past three years and I look forward to using your feedback to lead us towards even greater accomplishments in the future.

Freshman 101 Evening Materials
Information from the Freshman 101 Night held earlier in June
1. Summer Reading List
Summer Reading Assignment for Incoming 9th Graders.
2. Clarification of Timeline for Service Learning for Class of 2014
The district has clarified that incoming 9th graders may not start service learning towards the 60 hours required for high school graduation until they are “in 9th grade”, which means until the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year for the class of 2014. Accordingly, we gave out incorrect information to some students, based on what has been our past practice. And effective for the 2010-2011 school year, students in the class of 2014 may submit service learning hours carried out as of September 1, 2010 and later.

New AP Language Course
As of next school year, Roosevelt will be offering a yearlong Advanced Placement course called Language and Composition. It will be paired with American Literature and take the place of our American Literature requirement, and will be required for graduation starting with the class of 2012. Like other LA options, the course will eventually combine 11th and 12th graders, and for this reason, next year’s Juniors can take it next year or the year after that.
Please read the letter from David Grosskopf and Tom Nolet, Language Arts Co-Chairs for more information.
Interested in Being Involved This Year?
Roosevelt has many wonderful programs that just would not run without the time, energy and resources of parents, guardians and other volunteers. Please consider volunteering for one of the many PTSA committees or open Board position this year. Some of these are once/twice a month commitments, others are a one-time, short-term commitment while still others are ongoing, monthly commitments.
Check the open positions on the PTSA Roster and Committee page. You can find job descriptions for all of the Board and committee positions on the Volunteer Description page. If you have more questions, please contact a current PTSA Board or Committee member.
If you want to simply volunteer for an activity, please take a look at Volunteer page and sign up online for the activities that interest you.
